FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Creative Law Society Launches at Boalt HallStudent group plans to inject creative thinking and innovative programming into the law school experienceAugust 1, 2003 -- The Creative Law Society announced it has officially launched at Boalt Hall School of Law on the UC Berkeley campus. "We even have a bank account!" exclaimed co-founder Jenny Maybee, a soon-to-be 2L and a jazz musician. The group plans to offer creative options and outlets to Boalt students, with the radical idea that in addition to being more fun, a creative approach to legal education will also produce better lawyers. "The first year of law school can feel like slow right-brain death," explained Elizabeth Miles, a book author and ethnomusicologist. "With the Creative Law Society, we hope to help everyone at Boalt keep that hemisphere alive." On the group's agenda are the "Boalt Outside the Box" speaker series, Play-Doh & Pizza lunch meetings, and an alumni and employer network to help students explore careers in creative areas of the law. "We don't really know what's going to happen," said Heather Horne, who along with other creative talents plays a mean harp. "I mean, it took awhile for Pollock to come up with throwing paint at the wall." For More Information Contact: |
